Coach Lincoln Riley has won the RokFin Big 12 Coach of The Year award and we like to wait until things unfold when things matter the most at College Football Today. Iowa State Head Coach Matt Campbell is well deserving of his Big 12 Coach of The Year Award, but the Sooners went on a 9 game winning streak and won the Big 12 Championship game against Iowa State. Riley has now won four Big 12 Championships and was able to earn his first bowl victory in the 2020 Cotton Bowl, against a Florida team that just nearly beat the number one team in the land. Many will argue that the Gators were missing many key components in their offensive arsenal and rightfully so, but only a few defensive players were missing from the Gators roster. The lack of offense was evident with the Gators top four receivers opting out for the 2021 NFL Draft, but the Sooners offense has once again been virtually unstoppable since their rocky start to the 2020 season. The resume Lincoln Riley is compiling is quite impressive, as he has now won four Big 12 football titles and coached back to back Heisman Trophy winners in Baker Mayfield & Kyler Murray. This is taking nothing away from what Coach Campbell and the Iowa Cyclones were able to accomplish this season, as they will be contenders year in and year out for the Big 12 Championship. But, I feel that it is rightfully justified that the College Football Today & ESPN Plus Big 12 Coach of The Year Award be given to arguably one of the most brilliant football minds we have witnessed throughout the history of American football. In life and in football, it's not always about how you start the race, but rather the resilience, character and determination you have to rectify your miscues and finish the race. There were many obstacles to overcome the entire 2020 Covid-19 stricken college football season, but if Oklahoma only played 6 to 7 games like some teams, we most likely would be talking about another Boomer Sooner CFB Playoff Semifinal.
