UW HUSKIES FOOTBALL
The UW Huskies Head Football Coach Chris Petersen, has won College Football Today FBS College Football Coach Of The Year Award. The College Football Coach Of The Year Award goes to the Head Coach who has shown the ability to build a football program from the ground up, while also conducting themselves with the utmost coaching integrity.
Three days after the 2013 Apple Cup, Coach Steve Sarkisian announced he was leaving the UW Huskies Football program to take the Head Coaching job at the University of California. The UW Huskies program that was on the rise had its faithful Husky fans wondering what was to come next, as they were now searching for a new Head Football Coach. On December 6th, 2013, Coach Chris Petersen was hired as the new UW Huskies Head Football Coach Coach Petersen had just finished turning the Boise State Broncos into a Mountain West National Powerhouse, and the Huskies appeared to have the perfect fit for the high-octane PAC-12 Football conference. With a 57-6 record at Boise State, Coach Petersen took the helm and had back to back mediocre seasons with records of 8-6 and 7-6, with appearances in the Cactus Bowl and The Heart of Dallas Bowl.
College Football Coach Of The Year
UW Huskies football program began its resurgence under Coach Petersen's helm and finished the 2016 season 12-2, while earning a bid to the College Football Playoff. They played in the 49th Peach Bowl as PAC-12 Champions, against the heavily favored Alabama Crimson-Tide and Alabama defeated the Huskies by a score of 24-7. Young Jake Browning and Myles Gaskin were not able to muster up any offense on this day, as the Huskies were held to under 200 yards of total offense. Bo Scarbrough led Alabama's rushing attack with 19 carries for 180 yards and two touchdowns on the day, behind Alabama Quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Huskies Rose Bowl 2018
Before Coach Peterson led the Huskies to a 2018 Rose Bowl bid, they played in the 2017 Fiesta Bowl against Big Ten Opponent the Penn State Nittany-Lions. Once again, the Huskies fell in a heartbreaking 35-28 defeat, but it still looked as if Coach Peterson and the Huskies football program was on the rise. The 2018 Roses Bowl will feature a very similar match-up, as the Ohio State Buckeyes have a very potent offense and the Huskies will have to play tough defensively to have a shot to (purple) reign supreme in the Rose Bowl.
Ohio State vs Washington
The Ohio State vs Washington Rose Bowl game is significant nationally as this could be the infamous Urban Meyer's last game as the Ohio State Buckeyes Head Coach. All eyes will be on the Washington Huskies football program, as they try to end a two year long bowl losing streak and defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2019 Rose Bowl.
