COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS
The first college football playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday November 24th by the CFB Playoff committee and I expect the top four teams to be Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson. I still believe that Texas A&M should be in the fourth slot, as they were able to defeat the 6th ranked Gators and their only loss has come to now the consensus number one team in the nation, the Alabama Crimson-Tide. The Aggies have won four games in a row in the brutal SEC conference, but sadly will not get a shot at the SEC crown and are one of the hottest teams in the nation. The Tigers also rightfully deserve the spot as their only loss came to the number two nationally ranked Notre Dame Fighting-Irish, while not having the leader of their offensive arsenal Trevor Lawrence. With the Tigers only top 25 win coming over the 12th ranked Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M's coming against the 6th ranked Florida Gators, I only feel it is justifiable to leave them at number four in the College Football Today & ESPN Plus FBS Top 25. This is why many are in favor of a newly revised College Football Playoff system, that would feature 8 to 11 deserving teams like we currently have during this tumultuous 2020 CFB season.
CFB PLAYOFF RANKINGS RELEASE
In the first CFB playoff rankings release, I believe the Bearcats and BYU both will be ranked ahead of the Gators and possibly even Texas A&M. The CFB playoff committee simply values having an undefeated record and it holds weight with former CFB All-American's like Ronnie Lott and John Urschel. Also, the former Head Coaches on the selection committee like former Texas A&M Head Coach R.C Slocum and Ken Hatfield, also know how hard it is to be a consistent winner throughout the course of a college football season. This is why we could see the likes of the Aggies and Gators drop from their standings in the College Football Today & ESPN Plus Top 25, as well as the AP & Coaches Top 25 polls. With all of that being said, strength of schedule is also a deciding factor and the Aggies and Gators both have each won one game against a current Top 25 opponent, while playing in one of the toughest conferences from top to bottom. The only slight difference happens to be, the Aggies won head to head in College Station and out of all the one loss teams, both the Gators and Aggies have the best resume's to present at this juncture of the college football season. The Bearcats longevity of being a dominant team and boasting a 29-5 record the last three seasons, also will hold weight with the CFB Playoff committee and it will be highly intriguing how this first CFB Playoff rankings release pans out come Tuesday, November 24th.
2020 CFP TOP 25 RANKINGS
When the 2020 CFP top 25 rankings are released, I believe we will see the top 8 teams listed below and 4 through 8 could be in any given order. With College Football Today 14th ranked Northwestern beating Top 25 Wisconsin and moving to 5-0 on the season, I believe they could potentially climb into the top 10 of the 2020 CFP top 25 rankings and leap frog Miami, Oregon and Georgia. Indiana will not drop too far in any top 25 rankings, due to the fact they gave the 3rd ranked Buckeyes all they could handle in the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio. Given tonight's game's have not ended yet, we will post the remaining 2020 CFP top 25 ranking projections after all games have concluded. The Coach Whittingham led Utah Utes are a team that is highly talented and are facing off currently against Top 25 opponent the USC Trojans. Top 25 ranked Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are starting the 2nd half of Bedlam and top 25 Liberty, as well as Auburn are still slugging it out in week 13 of the college football season.
2. Notre Dame
3. Ohio State
5. Texas A&M
13. Coastal Carolina
15. Iowa State
17. USC (if they beat Utah)
25. North Carolina or Colorado
MAC JONES NFL DRAFT
2021 QB prospect Mac Jones NFL Draft scouting notes can be found below for this year's College Football Today & ESPN Plus 2021 NFL Draft Quarterback rankings.
Alabama Quarterback Mac Jones has also been placing the ball in prime positioning for his receivers to easily catch the football at it's highest point over the top of defenders. Jones has demonstrated remarkable over the top touch passing to his prolific 1st RD receiving talent this season and has all of the tools to be a high caliber NFL quarterback. He is able to avoid pressure by instinctively knowing where the rush is coming from and works to the open spot of the pocket, while being able to place the football away from the over the top safety and where only his receiver can make the reception. The Heisman Trophy front runner can stick the football into tightly knit creases in the defense that are completely covered and is one the best at working through his route progressions. You will very often see Mac quickly be able to find his check down or 5th or 6th read and rarely will give up negative plays. It does help to have a dominant back like Najee Harris and the vast amount of talent that Jones has on the outside, but if there is one quarterback who fits the mold of a big time NFL quarterback, I believe it is Mac Jones. I thoroughly value the way he is able to manipulate the defense with subtle, but authoritative shoulder pumps to draw defensive backs out of position and how he creates holes in the defensive secondary. This is very much like the sure first ballot Hall of Fame New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, but Jones stands 6'3,215, while having the same deceptiveness about where he is delivering the football. Obviously, Alabama is doing a great job training quarterbacks as Tua has led the Dolphins back to contention in the AFC East and Mac Jones is leading the highly potent Crimson-Tide offense on what could be an epic CFB playoff run. Alabama will take on the 3-4 Kentucky Wildcats today, who haven't played badly defensively against top tier opponents like Georgia, where they only allowed 14 points against the very talented Dawgs. Mac has been climbing the boards of many NFL executives all season long and could potentially surpass some of the names above by finishing undefeated and bringing home both the 2020 Heisman Trophy, as well as Coach Saban's 7th National Championship. Update: 2020 Heisman Candidate & NFL Draft 2021 QB prospect Mac Jones helped lead the Crimson-Tide to an extremely impressive 63 to 3 win over SEC opponents Kentucky. TOP NFL QB PROSPECTS
Having studied top NFL QB prospects for almost a decade now, I believe there are two whom I have done my due diligence scouting over the years, that possess the potential to be in an elite category down the road like the Bama gunslinger. Just like top NFL QB prospect Mac Jones, both top 2021 QB's 6'4,202 Kaden McMullen and 6'4,195 Aidan Thompson are highly underrated QB recruits, but possess all of the physical, as well as technical traits needed to operate a high octane college style offense. Both have been receiving numerous offers across the landscape of college football today and are names to keep an eye on moving forward for future NFL Draft classes. They both are able to throw the football with a quick release, outstanding velocity and excel at going over the top of the defense with pristine ball placement, where only their receivers can high point the football.
