WINNERS CIRCLE 2020
The College Football Today winners circle in 2020 feels a lot different for most of us, as many athletes, families and coaches felt the wrath of the Covid-19 pandemic. While many are still coping with the mental and physical anguish that the Coronavirus left that United States of America in. The cream still persevered through the bacteria ridden society and found themselves in the winners circle in the year 2020. Top 2022 DB recruit Myles Rowser has been in the winners circle since the 7th or 8th grade and we would like to congratulate him on his 25th offer from The University of Alabama. Offering a special young man of his caliber will always bring good fortune to the Crimson-Tide, as they look to win their 18th claimed national title. Top 2022 DB recruit Chandler Rivers was located over a year ago during our travels in South Texas and recently announced his first 15 offers, as he has proved week in and week out that he is a winner on and off the field. New Top 2022 QB recruit Brogan McCaughey recently earned an offer from Kent State and was able to shatter single game school records the week prior at St.Xavier. He is currently leading St.Xavier on an epic playoff run and doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. I have learned football recruitment can be just as confusing on how the Associated Press ranked the AP Top 25. Recruits are often now identified as young as the 7th or 8th grade and receive early offers, as everyone wants to be the first to offer the big time middle school player, who could pan out to be a 5 star recruit down the road. Many of these top tier student-athletes have panned out recently, but if the truth is to be told, many recruits will also arrive late to the recruitment party down the road. Some studs in the Class of 2023 already have 3 or more D-1 FBS offers, but are back-up quarterbacks for their high school teams and being asked to wait their turn. Case by case, you honestly never know what the future holds and many times you will be totally caught off guard at the amount of offers you receive from teams you have never spoken with. Every team has a different recruitment strategy and the way they handle in-state and out of state recruiting, as many will study and remain silent until they feel 100% confident pulling the offer cord. Top 2022 Dual-Threat QB Conner Harrell got his first chance to lead Thompson HS in Alabama in 2020 and has been full-throttle since taking the field. Through his first 9 games he has thrown for 2,318 yards and 26 touchdowns, while only throwing one interception on the 2020 season. His completion percentage is sitting around 74% and he has also rushed for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns. We knew Conner would have a breakout year, but his excellent numbers and game film earned him offers from Tennessee and UAB, as well as the number one 2022 Dual-Threat QB ranking at College Football Today. More recently, Scout Trout 2024 Elite 11 QB recruit Tyler Aronson earned his first D1 offer from Coach Willie Taggart and the Florida Atlantic Owls. Tyler has been a proven commodity at the quarterback position and carried his brilliant Pop Warner play to the Varsity level at The Benjamin School in Florida. While working CFB recruiting in the Class of 2020, I ran across one of the most gifted linebackers in the nation in top 2020 LB recruit Gary Osby. I quickly noticed 2021 Louisville commit T.J Quinn scouring sideline to sideline in the defensive backfield and a few weeks later, he was added to the Top 2021 DB recruitment database. After observing his progression in pass coverage over the years, Quinn would take off in his recruitment and received offers from Virginia Tech, Kentucky, West Virginia, Wake Forest, FSU, Troy, Duke, FIU, Coastal Carolina, Tulane, Cincinnati, FAU, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Colorado,NC State, Illinois, Syracuse, App State, Kent State, Boston College, Air Force, Washington St, Liberty, ECU, MSTU & Tennessee St. I believe Quinn is a certified 5 star football recruit and has an enormous amount of potential to one day hear his named called in the NFL Draft. Top 2021 O-Line recruit Will Jones was also identified a few years back and has since taken his talents to the IMG Academy National Team. Will had an outstanding body of work, but was from a very small high school in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. Top 2021 OL recruit Will Jones didn't let that stop him from earning offers from Brown, MTSU, Elon, Villanova, Fordham, Campbell, Navy, Air Force, VMI, New Hampshire, Lehigh, Coastal Carolina, Kent St, Arkansas St, Liberty, William & Mary, Richmond, Tenn-Chattanooga, Army, Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, James Madison, Gardner-Webb, Furman & Georgetown. Coastal Carolina and Liberty are currently undefeated and members of the College Football Today week 8 FBS Top 25! Modern day FB recruiting already had enough complexity in how it is conducted nationally, but when you throw in the monkey wrench that Covid-19 brought forth, it became even more media driven. This is not always a good thing if you are a late riser in the recruitment process, as the media tends to stick to charts and whose offered who, rather than play on the football field. I know of two recruits in the Elite Recruitment Database who had scheduled visits to the University of Alabama, which were cancelled due to the extended dead period. Many 2021 late risers felt the harsh affects of the pandemic, but from working recruiting classes from 2016 to now the Class of 2025, it's certainly not over yet. The 2018 Scout Trout All-American Bowl had mostly top players that were identified after their senior seasons and hundreds of offers went out after the data was sent out to college coaches. Unfortunately, many current commits will have to take the junior college route after failing to meet the NCAA clearinghouse requirements and some players will declare early for the NFL Draft. This leaves college coaches scattering last minute to find potential system fits and recruits they deem can play at their respective level in College Football Today. Most FCS, D2, D3 and NAIA teams have not even begun recruiting yet and will wait until the aftermath of the D1-FBS recruiting process. There are many top tier 2021-2025 football recruits still available that can be located in the elite recruitment database by clicking the image below! Many have already received offers and heavy interest nationally, as they will continue to rise at College Football Today.
TOP FOOTBALL RECRUITS
We will be highlighting many top football recruits in the College Football Today Winners Circle 2020, as we begin to update top football recruit rankings at College Football Today. Many will be just wrapping up their 2020 high school football seasons and many will just be starting their 2020 campaigns. This is why recruitment could run deeper into the off-season in 2021, as many players have been identified, but coaches want to see how they bounce back in their senior seasons. As a believer in production over hype, I see many arriving late to the recruitment party in the near future.
FBS TOP 25 WEEK 8
The College Football Today FBS top 25 for week 8 was updated on October 17th, 2020 at 10:34 PM CST. Our FBS top 25 for week 8 was once again released almost a full day before the AP Top 25 & Coaches polls. The only team missing from the College Football Today FBS top 25 was Kansas State and while we believe Kansas State could be a top 25 later in the season, the loss to Arkansas State is what ultimately kept them out of the week 8 FBS top 25. Given the fact that Coastal Carolina beat Arkansas State head to head by a score of 52-23 and were able to defeat the formerly ranked Ragin Cajuns in Louisiana, we could not justify placing K-State above the Chanticleers. Although Liberty football has been in some closely contested match-ups, they were able to beat Syracuse handily this past weekend and gained enough fan votes to enter our FBS Top 25 at College Football Today.
